Works on ordinary phones, with weak signal or none at all. The map lives on the device — the field doesn't need internet to tell you where you are.

Why Strabo?

Strabo was the Greek geographer who described Agrippa's world map — Rome's engineer who measured the known world. The original map was lost; Strabo's description crossed two thousand years and reached us. The app does the same with your map: it takes it out of the cabinet and puts it in your pocket — where the work happens.
